MCB semi‑automatic thermal trip calibration bench Type‑A with shift mechanism for multi‑model support. Programmable overload current (up to 200A), real‑time HMI, IEC 60898‑1 compliant. Ideal for labs and production QC. Semi‑auto operation reduces operator error.
MCB Semi‑Automatic Thermal Trip Calibration Bench Type‑A
The MCB calibration bench (Type A) is purposely built to perform effective testing and calibration of miniature circuit breakers (MCB). There is a unique shifting mechanism that accommodates a range of different circuit breaker types, allowing you to carry out precise thermal trip calibrations. There is an easy-to-use interface which allows the user to set test parameters (i.e. overload current multipliers, trip time Windows) very easily as well as view real-time results. this unit is built for both laboratory and field applications, making it an important device for enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of testing for circuit breakers. The robust construction and standardisation (according to IEC 60898-1) of this equipment makes it a must have for either a MCB manufacturer or technician.
The bench is designed for semi-automatic operation. The operator loads an MCB into the test system, selects a product recipe on the HMI, and presses the start button. The test system will then apply the overload current as programmed (ie. 1.13×, 1.45× In), take the trip time, compare that trip time to the IEC window of time, and show the results. An optional integrated calibration tool allows the operator to physically adjust the bimetal screw while watching the trip time live, re-testing until the trip time falls within specification. It will also allow for quick changeover of other families of MCBs with minimal complexity for tooling changes and is ideal for QC laboratories, production sampling, and R&D activities.

What is an MCB Semi‑Automatic Thermal Trip Calibration Bench Type‑A?
The MCB semi-automatic thermal trip calibration bench Type A is a specialized testing device used to calibrate the overload (thermal) trip feature of miniature circuit breakers. The Type A bench is semi-automated, which allows the current to be applied and the trip time to be measured automatically, but the operator is responsible for loading/unloading the circuit breakers and (if required) adjusting the bimetallic heater. The Type A bench has a mechanical shifting function for the test fixture, which allows the test fixture to be adjusted to accommodate all miniature circuit breaker designs (e.g., 1P/2P/3P/4P; multiple current ratings) without changing the electrical connections. The Type A bench also has a digital display that shows real-time trip time, pass/fail status and the number of tests previously completed; it meets the requirements of the IEC 60898-1 standard for over-current protection verification. The Type A Calibration Bench is an ideal solution for laboratory applications, production quality assurance and field service applications where flexibility and moderate throughput are required. As a non-standard custom solution, we will modify the shift mechanism and test fixture to suit your specific series of MCB.
Quickly adapts to different MCB housing designs without tooling change.
Automated current application and timing; operator loads/unloads.
HMI shows trip time, test current, pass/fail, and test count.
Supports 1.13× In (no‑trip) and 1.45× In (trip within time) tests.

Principais vantagens técnicas
Shift mechanism for flexible MCB compatibility
The test contact shift mechanism (Type A), unlike a permanent fixture, permits lateral movement of test contacts to accommodate different terminal pitch configurations of MCBs. The benefit is that any given test bench can test numerous MCB variations with no manual rewiring or adapter modification, making it very useful for laboratories performing multiple families of products.
Semi‑automation boosts consistency & throughput
Manual calibration relies on the stopwatch and reaction times of operators to get accurate results. With Type A, you have an automatic way to apply current, detect a trip and measure time where there is no chance for human error – all you have to do is load up your MCB, hit the start button and read your result, providing you with an average reduction of 50 – 70% in unit test times when compared to using manual benches.
Real‑time trip time monitoring for precise adjustment
For every adjustment that is made to the bimetal screw during calibration, the operator is able to view the real-time trip time displayed on the bench. This allows for immediate feedback based upon the adjustments made. There is no limitation on the number of attempts needed to achieve the target range (-20%), as all re-testing will take place at the bench.
Portable & robust for field or lab use
Type‐A’s strong and durable compact construction provides it with significant advantages for quality assurance laboratories as well as field use. Users can opt for an optional carry case and/or battery-powered operation (for storing data).
Customer Success Story – Electrical Testing Laboratory
There was a need to calibrate fifteen different circuit breaker models from multiple manufacturers using an independent laboratory. Each of the manual test fixtures needed to be wired for each of these fifteen circuit breakers, a task which took approximately ten minutes for each circuit breaker change. Benlong used a semi-automated thermal trip calibration bench with a shift mechanism, nevertheless the changeover time dropped to thirty seconds, and the accuracy of the test improved. After six months of use, the following results were produced:
The bench paid for itself in 8 months and became the lab’s primary MCB calibration tool.

Perguntas frequentes
The shifting mechanism enables lateral movement of the test contacts so that they can be aligned with the terminal spacings of MCBs of various designs. Consequently, multiple manufacturers’ MCBs can be tested on a single tester without having to swap out any of the mechanical adaptors, thereby saving time and providing assurance that there will be no errors resulting from incorrectly connecting terminals on two different style of MCBs.
Type A: Manually Load MCB and Press Start. After pressing start the bench will automatically apply the programmed test current and measure the trip time before displaying the results. An operator can also manually adjust (turning screws) the bimetallic adjustment while viewing the live trip time on the program display.
This bench will handle overcurrent at any level up to its maximum output current (200 A). Typical uses include 1.13× In (Feed only – no trip), 1.45× In (trip time dependent) per IEC 60898-1, and other nonstandard or custom testing for R&D purposes.
Yes. Both the shift mechanism and the software will permit the testing of 1P and 2P to 4P breakers by bench testing all poles either one after the other or by using a multi-channel current source to test them all at once, if desired.
Each 1P miniature circuit breaker (MCB) will be tested with current at 1.45 times its rated maximum, in order to determine trip time. The method used will be to apply current to the MCB for about 45-60 seconds, followed by the operator’s loading/unloading time (about 5-10 seconds), so total time for each individual MCB will be approximately 50 to 70 seconds.
