The high-precision MCB semi-automatic magnetic trip test bench is used to test miniature circuit breakers (MCB) instantaneously to protect against short circuit by using perform as per IEC 60898-1 Compliance test standards. The test bench enables the user to create simulated short circuits (5-10 times rated current) for MCBs, measure response time, and record data automatically, ensuring that all tests are precise and repeatable. The test bench has a user-friendly touch screen interface, adjustable test parameters (multipliers and trip time), and a robust mechanical design combined with multiple safety features, which makes the test bench ideal for performing quality control, maintenance, and R&D tasks in both a Manufacturing and laboratory/Research environment.

What is an MCB Semi‑Automatic Magnetic Trip Test Bench?

MCB semi-automatic magnetic trip test benches are specialized testing systems that verify the instantaneous trip (short short-circuit) characteristics of miniature circuit breakers. Unlike thermal trip tests that verify overload protection, magnetic trip tests apply a high current pulse (or multiple of rated current) and capture trip time in ms. The test bench automates the current and time generation, however relies on the operator to load/unload and specify parameters. The primary features of the bench are a high-current source (up to 5,000A depending on MCB rating), an extremely accurate digital timer (± 1ms of accuracy), and a touch screen HMI for configuration of the tests. The test bench also meets the requirements of IEC 60898-1 (section on instantaneous trip). The test bench is critical for quality control in MCB manufacturing, type testing laboratories, and field maintenance. As a non-standard/i.e. custom solution, we will customize the current range, fixture, and test parameters to suit your specific MCB series.

The bench delivers a high‑current pulse with a fast rise time (<1ms) and precise magnitude, ensuring that the trip time measurement reflects the actual breaker response, not test equipment variation. Automated timing eliminates operator stopwatch errors.

Intuitive touchscreen operation

Using a simple tap, operators may select a test current multiplier (either x5, x7.5 or x10) and a trip time range. The results (i.e. pass/fail) will be shown instantly. The bench will automatically archive the trip time data for quality documentation records.

Versatile fixture for mixed production

Universal clamps have the ability to hold numerous circuit breakers (MCBs) such as 1P, 2P, 3P and 4P without needing to change tools. They also have adjustable contact spacing and can accommodate most terminal pitches (17.5mm – 25mm). Custom fixtures can be supplied as an option for high volume dedicated testing (HVD) applications.

Data logging for traceability

All test results are stored by default along with time stamps. Test data can be exported on USB in .csv format for SPC tracking or customer quality documentation. An optional barcode scanner can link results to individual MCB serial numbers.

Standard Bench Includes

What is the difference between magnetic trip and thermal trip testing?

A magnetic trip test simulates a short circuit by passing an increased amount of current (5 to 10 times the rated current). The rated current of the breaker. Must trip within milliseconds.
