The MCB Semi-Automatic Thermal Trip Calibration Bench Type B is a very advanced system that can be used to accurately calibrate thermal trips in MCB’s (Miniature Circuit Breakers). This test system closely mimics actual working conditions, has an easy to use interface, and enables operators to conduct their tests with maximum efficiency.

The type B component includes a series of insertable cards, enabling you to perform multiple types of tests — that is, quickly re-configuring your tests for different MCB Types, Current ratings, and Test Standards. The accuracy & reliability of this equipment will meet the requirements of the IEC 60898-1 standards (therefore, making this equipment a requirement for MCB manufacturers & Maintenance Teams).

This equipment is designed to enhance the accuracy of MCB’s; therefore, it can be used in both the laboratory or field environment.

What is an MCB Semi‑Automatic Thermal Trip Calibration Bench Type‑B?

The MCB Semi-Automatic Thermal Trip Calibration Bench, Type B, is a multi-functional system used to test the overload (thermal) trip features of miniature circuit breakers. Also, it is between two types of benches, fully manual benches (type A with shift mechanisms) and completely automatic inline testers. Automated tests for current generation and measuring trip times are completed with Type B; however, the operator is responsible for loading/unloading circuit breakers and selecting test cards. The most significant part of Type B is that the calibration uses insertable test cards, pre-programmed modules having the parameters necessary for testing an MCB family group (e.g., current multipliers, time window, trip curve). The operator will insert the correct card into the test slot, load the MCB, and press the start button; at which point, the bench provides the correct overload current to the MCB and notes if it has passed or failed on the display. The result is an elimination of human error in manually entering parameters and expedited changeover times between test circuits. This makes Type B the ideal solution for both lab environments and production lines that routinely test multiple types of MCBs. Insertable cards eliminate parameter errors

Operators don’t have to manually input test current or trip windows for each type of MCB anymore. The parameters specific to every product family are pre‑validated on each card. Simply insert the card, load the MCB and press start – everything else is done for you by the bench. This reduces changeovers from manually entering parameters by 80%.

Fast changeover for mixed production

To change from 10A B-curve MCBs to 32A C-curve MCBs, simply install the MCB card for either style and change the fixture as needed. Type B locks are different from manual benches as the current is locked onto the card inserted, so it’s impossible for operator error of setting up for the wrong current. What is the difference between Type‑A and Type‑B?

Type A has a manual current setting and a mechanical changeover to adjust to different widths of MCBs, whereas Type B has a fixed size fixture and has test cards that can be inserted to set parameters automatically. You would select Type B if you will be testing multiple types of MCB electrical specifications (ratings, curves) but with the same basic physical size; you would select Type A if you will be testing various physical sizes of MCBs but with only a few electrical variants.

How many test cards can the bench hold?

4 slots in a bench. Extra cards can be stored in a case (to be swapped as needed). You can have up to 20 cards programmed in advance for your product portfolio.

Can I program my own test cards?

With our software utility for windows, you can create or program cards according to your specifications (current underrates, time periods, and product identifiers) while being free from assistance within Engineers when setting up additional MCAs.

Does the bench include a barcode scanner?

Optional. A Barcode scanner may be included, allowing the correct test card to be automatically selected by referencing the corresponding MCB barcode. This will eliminate any chance of an error occurring when selecting a card.

What is the typical test time per MCB?

1P MCB will be tested to 1.45 times rated current by using the recommended test procedure. The test is to be carried out for 45–60 seconds (trip time) before loading/unloading is complete and includes an automatic trip and display of results at trip via the use of a timer.
