Automatic RCBO Demagnetization & Tripping Test Unit
The RCBO Auto Magnetic Reset with Testing Machine is an inline automated test machine for production and quality assurance testing of residual current circuit breakers (RCBOs) with over current protection. This system uses controlled magnetic demagnetization to remove residual magnetism from the circuit breaker’s tripping mechanism; therefore, producing test results that are both stable and repeatable. The system also performs automatic residual current injection and magnetic tripping tests for testing RCBOs’ sensitivity, response time, and functional reliability, according to IEC 61008-1/IEC 61009-1. The RCBO Auto Magnetic Reset Test Machine can be operated inline or as a stand-alone test unit. The RCBO Auto Magnetic Reset Test Machine features precise current control, fast test cycle times, and reliable pass/fail judgment. In addition, the test data can be automatically acquired and this unit can easily be integrated into an automated assembly line or into a production environment that is operated using a Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
The core features of the device are: automatic demagnetization of the device, programmable residual current (IΔn) injection (30mA, 100mA, 300mA), trip time measurement ( ±1ms), and magnetically verifying trip. The device is capable of testing both Type “A” and AC Type RCBOs. The results of tests made are recorded and can be sent to MES systems for total traceability. This makes the device is suitable for testing RCBO production lines, product quality control and testing for certification purposes.

What is an RCBO Automatic Magnetic Reset & Testing Machine?
An RCBO magnetic reset & test machine is a testing unit for testing residual current circuit breakers with overcurrent protection (RCBOs). The RCBO will perform 2 main functions, which are magnetic demagnetization (an automated controlled method of removing residual magnetism from the tripping mechanism) and residual current testing (the use of a programmable residual current (I Δn) to test the tripping time and sensitivity). In addition, the unit also tests the magnetic trip (overcurrent). All testing is carried out in a completely automated manner with very accurate current control and digital timing. These systems can be integrated into inline production environments where they can provide a fast cycle time (approximately 5-10 seconds per RCBO) and connect to MES for data traceability. Eliminates residual magnetism for consistent results
Residual magnetism can remain in the tripping mechanism of an RCBO after it has been manufactured or previously tested, resulting in inconsistencies in sensitivity. Therefore, it is essential that an integrated demagnetization station provides a controlled, decaying magnetic field to reset the mechanism prior to each test, ensuring that all RCBOs are tested under the same magnetic conditions. This is crucial for compliance with IEC requirements.
High‑speed inline testing
By providing a normal cycle time of 5-10 seconds per unit (demagnetization, residual current and magnetic trip testing), the system is capable of keeping up with production lines running at high volumes. The presence of parallel test stations (optional) will further improve throughput.
Precise residual current injection
With an accuracy level of +/- 5%, the built-in/current source produces an output circuit that provides a pure sinusoidal/pulsed DC fault current (depending on the type of ‘RCBO’ being used). By utilizing this means, the measurement of trip times will be a true reflection of the operation of the device itself and will eliminate the variance found in test equipment.
Full traceability & MES integration
Each RCBO has been tested and the results of the test (trip times at IΔn, magnet trip time, demagnetisation status) are associated with its barcode or serial number. Data is reported from the RCBOs to the MES through OPC UA or Modbus TCP such that complete traceability is provided for quality audits and IEC certification purposes.

Residual magnetism may exist in the magnetic material of the tripping coils and/or the permanent magnets, found in RCBOs. The residual magnetic field will affect the trip sensitivity (or “trip point”) of the RCBO, potentially resulting in inconsistent test result. The demagnetization process removes the residual magnetism in the magnetic material prior to each test and therefore allows each unit to be tested under the same conditions.
Our standard machine supports AC-type and A-type RCBOs. If you are testing B-type (smooth DC) you will require an upgraded current source that has pulsed DC capabilities. Please provide your specifications for your RCBO so we can provide you with a custom recommendation.
The unit executes a full test sequence (demag → residual current trip test (I delta n) and magnetic trip overcurrent test). All parameters are programmable, and results are logged individually per unit.
Where testing is done as per standard procedure (demagnetize + residual current test at 30mA + magnetic trip), there is a cycle time of approximately five to ten seconds for each unit. Usage of parallel test stations will further improve throughput.
