Manual MCCB Long‑Time Thermal Calibration Bench
This MCCB calibration bench has been developed to provide an accurate and reproducible measurement of thermal delay performance across a full range of MCCB ratings (100A to 1600A). The cabinet is designed to enable a technician to adjust and confirm long term trip characteristics with precision and confidence. Through the provision of stable heating current, intuitive operation, and clear real-time monitoring, the calibration bench allows for the production of consistent calibration results. The calibration bench’s robust design, focus on safety and fixture system flexibility make it a suitable choice for laboratory testing as well as field service work. In addition this versatile calibration platform simplifies the flow of work, increases the reliability of calibration equipment and provides accurate calibration results for various types of MCCB equipment.
The bench is designed with a simple manual loading mechanism and has features helpful for performing the tests. Included with this test bench are a programmable constant current source (up to 800A +) the digital timer with ±0.1% accuracy, and an easy-to-use human machine interface (HMI). The Operator simply sets the desired test current (i.e., 100% In = no trip; 135% In = trip test) and watches the trip time displayed on the HMI after applying that current.
The adjustable bi-metal screw can be manually adjusted using an optional tool while monitoring the live trip time.
This test bench can accommodate all types of MCCB frame sizes (from 100A to 1600A) and pole configurations (from 1P to 4P) using quick-change adapters, making it an excellent tool for the examination of MCCB during production QC, service maintenance, and type testing by laboratories.
Standard delivery: 30-45 days | Up to 1600A | Flexible fixture system
What is an MCCB Manual Thermal Calibration Bench?
An MCCB thermal calibration manual bench is a setup to prove and set the overload (thermal) trip characteristic for molded case circuit breakers. The manual bench differs from a fully automated test bench, in that the operator loads the MCCB manually onto the bench, sets the test current manually or via HMI, observes the trip time on a digital timer, and optionally adjusts the bimetallic screw of the MCCB using a tooling method. The bench contains a stable, constant current source (i.e., low drift and low distortion) and a very versatile and adaptable fixture system that will accommodate numerous frame sizes (i.e., 100A to 1600A) and pole configurations. The bench will meet IEC 60947‑2 overload testing methods for molded case circuit breakers and is ideal for production sampling, maintenance shops, as well as laboratories where flexibility and cost‑effectiveness are major concerns. As a custom solution that is not of standard design/configuration, we will customize the fixture and the current range according to the series of the MCCB you are testing.
Up to 800A standard, customizable to 1600A or higher.
Quick‑change adapters for 100A‑1600A frames, 1P‑4P.
Closed‑loop regulation, drift <2% over 8 hours, THD <3%.
Digital timer (±0.1%) displays trip time; HMI shows current, status.

Wide compatibility with various MCCB frames
Using interchangeable adapter plates and clamps, the fixture system of the bench can be adjusted to hold MCCBs ranging from 100A to 1600A. Within two minutes, a new frame can be attached to the bench; therefore, this fixture is suitable for maintenance facilities and laboratories that test many different types of products.
Stable, low‑drift heating current
The use of a closed-loop thyristor control system to maintain a constant current output provides a maintained set point that has been shown to be within +/- 2% for a period of eight hours or more. Furthermore, there are very low levels of waveform distortion (
Manual operation with digital precision
The operator will load and set up their own test bench manually but will use digital timers to indicate if the sample has passed or failed its duration of time based on trip time windows stored internally in the instrument, thus eliminating any possibility of misinterpreting the timing with an analog stopwatch.
Rugged construction for field & lab use
This bench is designed to be as durable as possible for use in industrial settings as well as offering the precision of a lab. The frame is welded steel, has heavy-duty casters and has been built with protective enclosures to withstand the harshest environments found in your workplace.
Customer Success Story – Switchgear Maintenance Facility
After servicing industrial switchgear maintenance facility’s MCCB’s with different brand frame sizes from 250A to 1600A, one of their existing equipment could handle only 800 ampere and used fixed fixtures requiring rewiring by the user, Benlong provided a manual thermal calibration bench equipped with a flexible fixture system as well as 1500 ampere current source capability.
Results For First Six Months;
The bench paid for itself in 10 months and became the shop’s primary calibration tool.

The operator must load the MCCB, set the test current, and record the trip time in manual calibration. The bimetal screw is adjusted using a motorized process, and the result has a pass/fail judgment in automatic calibration. Manual benches offer more options and cost effective solutions for mixed production lines.
Absolutely! With the correct current source configuration and appropriate fixture adapter. The standard bench can handle a maximum of 800A; however, there is also an upgraded version which can handle up to 1600A! A flexible fixture system with quick change out of adapters allows you to change adapters according to different frame sizes.
The digital timer will get triggered once current is supplied to the test setup and will cease to run again until after an MCCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) has tripped. Optionally, a Current Transformer (CT) can be used to confirm that the circuit under test had steady state current for the duration of the test.
Yes, there is built into the bench; overload protection by way of Current limiter, shut off if temp exceeds Locolow, and emergency stop switch, all circuits have a fuse or are protected with a breaker.
When being tested at their total rated current, breakers will not trip for at least 1 hour. Additionally, it may take 60-120 seconds for a breaker to trip when being tested at 135% of their rated current, depending on the breaker design. The bench has the capability of being pre-programmed to run these tests (with a manual function for loading/unloading) automatically.
