What is an automated production line?

An automated production line is a set of connected machines and workstations that operate using minimal human intervention to perform assembly and test operations via a material-handling system. Our automatic VCB production line features a central PLC controlling: alignment of vacuum interrupters, assembly of mechanisms, testing mechanical characteristics, testing for high voltage insulation, and mechanical performance testing cycling for endurance.

What is VCB?

VCB refers to a medium-voltage circuit breaker (typically 12 kV, 24 kV, or 40.5 kV) that uses a vacuum interrupter to extinguish the electrical arc created when the breaker opens. Due to their reliability, durability, long operational life, and minimal maintenance requirements, VCBs are commonly used in power distribution, industrial facilities, rail transportation, and renewable energy systems.

What is the full automatic production line?

A full auto production line means all processes from feeding components into the line to testing the finished product occur without human intervention. Our VCB line includes vacuum interrupter loading, servo-controlled alignment, spring mechanism assembly, mechanism characteristic test (speed/travel/timing), high-voltage withstand test, loop resistance test, mechanical endurance cycling, and MES data upload – all on one continuous conveyor. The operator only monitors the system and loads component magazines.

Why is VCB used in HT Line?

The benefits of using VCBs in high-tension (HT) lines include their quick extinguishing of arcing when breaking the circuit with vacuum in between the breaker contacts. There is no possibility of fire or explosion, as vacuum has excellent arc-quenching properties. Their compact size, long lifespan (over 10,000 cycles), low maintenance, and ability to handle frequent switching make them an ideal choice for high-voltage applications. Our automatic line ensures every VCB meets IEC 62271-100 arc-quenching and dielectric strength requirements.

How is the vacuum interrupter aligned during assembly?

To accurately assemble a VCB, our production line uses servo-controlled linear motion actuators and specialized jigs designed to measure the alignment of vacuum interrupter assemblies within one micron of tolerance. Alignment checks are performed using electronic sensors, which verify the correct contact gap and vacuum seal integrity. Both factors are critical for the VCB’s short-circuit interruption performance.

What mechanical characteristics are measured?

During assembly, each VCB is tested at a stationary automated test station. Measurements include opening and closing speeds, total travel distance, over-travel distance, opening and closing times, and contact bounce. All results are compared against IEC 62271-100 tolerances, and each VCB’s test results are linked to its serial number for full traceability.
